i have just purchased a honda civic 1995 SLI model, 3doors. superb drive but i want to have remote central locking on it. can i do that myself and how? where to purchase a reliable one

anyone who can do it in the dagenham area, essex?|||Yes you can do it yourself. You need to be fairly handy with power tools and tools in general.

You'll need a kit for the doors and one for the hatch.

You might try checking out a scrapyard first - just to see where the bits are attached. If you can take it off, you can put it on. Just use a digital camera and take loads of photos for reference.

Also, buy a Haynes Manual (~拢19 from Halfords) and it will detail how to remove and refit the CL system.

You need to connect the system to the correct fuse point in the fuse panel and use the recommended fuse.

Don't tie it into another system to save time.

Using a relay unit with a remote fob, you connect the unit to the door actuators and insulate the electrical joints. you'll need a lot of coloured auto electric wire.

I put RCL in a car I had about 8 years ago. It take a bit of time if you're not familiar with it but the actuators you get with a kit are not always up to the job. If you can get a set from a scrapper, it's an easier deal. Plus you can remove the wiring loom associated with the CL system and it saves having to guess which wires to connect to what.

You'll need grommets for the doors and pillars so that you can pass wires through. Most systems have a plug that connects onto the actuator but this makes it easy to pass it through the pillar and door.|||If you contact an auto electrical company they can fit one for around 150 quid - You can buy a decent kit of elecs and motors for 40 quid and install it yourself if you're handy with stuff like that but central locking pumps/motors are a pain if they're not installed properly - you could very well find one of your doors not locking after a couple of weeks.

Make sure you buy it from a specific auto electrical retailer, places like halfords will have some fantastic priced junk on their shelves which will give you problems (like their p.o.s. alarms which go off in the middle of the night)
